International Media Training on Dignified Menstruation kicks off

Kathmandu, April 16: Today’s four-day international media training on Dignified Menstruation kicked off.

17 journalists, including from Kenya, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India, and Nepal, are attending the event.  According to Lals Chalaune, who takes charge of the communication department of the Global South Coalition for Dignified Menstruation, the event aims to orient participants about concepts around Dignified Menstruation and reinforce policymakers towards the urgency of Dignified Menstruation through media advocacy.

Sapna Paudel, the programme head for the Coalition, said the applications for the programme were sought through the announcements on social media platforms. It received applications from 20 countries around the world, and participants were selected based on certain criteria. For example, they should have content contributions to the international media/magazines and produce content centering on menstruation, and their ideas and understanding should match with the objectives of the campaign for Dignified Menstruation.

According to writer, noted rights activist and trainer Dr Radha Paudel, media has a significant role in strengthening the advocacy on dignified menstruation; therefore, GSCDM has been conducting training for journalists on Dignified Menstruation in Nepal and beyond. “More importantly, dignified menstruation is everyone’s business,” she asserted.

During the training, the participants who are from diverse genders and communities will be oriented on the concepts of Dignified Menstruation through human rights, feminist, and gender perspectives, it is said. Global South Coalition. RSS
